The third leg of the tour starts a little earlier than the first and second days. The tours on the third day are also of more famous breweries than either of the two previous days. Leaving Chester around 9:15am, we first visit the Otter Creek Brewery in Middlebury, VT. Having crafted award-winning craft brews for over 20 years, all beer is made with three strains of yeast and the freshest hops and malts available, which really show in the flavor.
Next we’re off to Burlington, VT to visit the Magic Hat Brewery. Never overpowering, Magic Hat is pleaser for any crowd. The Brewery’s Number 7 is a national favorite. Also in Burlington is the Switchback Brewery, where we also stop in for a few.
Switchback is steeped in traditional brewing techniques and ingredients focused on well-balanced recipes without sacrificing flavor complexity. They also leave their brews unfiltered for a more organic touch. Unfiltered brew also has more of “mouth feel,” head retention and maintains the overall natural goodness and color of beer.
Then it’s off to the Church Street station area of Burlington to the Vermont Pub and Brewery, definitely at the top of the list when it comes to variety and quality. You don’t run a successful brewery in the middle of the microbrew capital of the world without spectacular product. The Vermont Pub and Brewery beer has superb depth and choice to satisfy even the most discriminating of tastes.
